I joined Aitken Alexander Associates in 2016, and became a Director in 2017. Previously Rights Director at Faber & Faber, I now run our Foreign Rights department and represent a select list of literary fiction and non-fiction.

In fiction I look for stunning sentences, convincing narratives, and that particular on-the-page magic that makes a reader pause, reflect and re-read. My authors – who include Max Porter, Jessie Greengrass, Niven Govinden and Megan Barker – have been shortlisted for the Women’s Prize, the Orwell, Dylan Thomas and Gordon Burn prizes amongst others, and longlisted for the Booker Prize.

In non-fiction my taste is for the narrative. I love personal accounts which offset a greater political context or take me to a subject or place I know little about; writing that transports or teaches me. From my list, Yasmin El-Rifae, Helen Gordon, Chimene Suleyman and Jude Rogers all write into this space brilliantly.

Whether non-fiction, fiction or something somewhere in-between, I look for original voices and captivating storytelling from interesting places.
